Journalists, buyers and bloggers were looking forward to see the first show of creative director Demna Gvasalia. And at the same time, Balenciaga’s very first men’s catwalk show. And so, the expectations were extremely high.
The glass dome of the Lycée Franklin, with the Eiffel Tower on the background, was the perfect location for the presentation of the 2017 summer collection. But the collection of the ex-student of the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts also knew how to impress.
Out of proportion broad-shouldered suits, and a remarkable trouser length, combined with (white) boots with heel. Or a rectangle shaped oversize coat with a clerical stole around the neck. That requires courage. The perfectly tailored suits, however, take a little less courage.
A fun nod to the classic businessman were the Balenciaga business cards in the breast pocket, instead of the pocket square. Alas, I don’t immediately see the conservative lawyer or banker receiving his clients dressed this way. Would be cool though.
